What a tick bite could mean: From Lyme disease to rare viruses

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria spread through the bite of a blacklegged tick, often called a deer tick, and it remains the most common tick-borne illness in the country. According to Dr. Jen Caudle, a family physician and associate professor at Rowan University, the early symptoms can be tricky because they mimic so many other conditions: fever, chills, headache, fatigue and body aches. There is one symptom that can point doctors toward Lyme specifically.
