Vance Boelter due in court on Wednesday

Vance Boelter, the man convicted federally in the deadly attack on Minnesota lawmakers last summer, appeared in court Wednesday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to state charges.

Boelter was already sentenced in federal court to back-to-back life sentences plus 40 years for the murders of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and the attempted murders of Sen. John Hoffman, his wife, Yvette, and his daughter, Hope.

The state charges against him are now proceeding in Hennepin County District Court, where Boelter filed a flurry of motions last week.
