Forty-five years ago, one Twin Cities man bowled his way into the history books, and people still talk about it today.
In 1981, Roger Blad bowled three perfect games during a tournament at Drkula’s 32 Bowl in Inver Grove Heights.
“I was there to win,” Blad said. “It was my day.”
Blad missed three more perfect games by one strike.
“It was just unbelievable,” Blad said.
Blad’s three perfect games in one day set a world record, and he appeared in several newspapers, including Sports Illustrated magazine.
“It was a magical moment,” Blad said. “At that time I was a celebrity for a little bit, but it wore off.”
The ball Blad used is in the trophy case at Drkula’s 32 Bowl, and his three perfect games are on the 300 award wall of fame.
