INDIANAPOLIS — Alzheimer’s disease affects millions of people in the U.S., and a new blood test could give doctors another way to identify the disease in patients experiencing cognitive decline.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved Roche Diagnostics and Eli Lilly’s Elecsys pTau217 blood test for people 55 and older who are showing signs and symptoms of cognitive decline.
