Dollywood to announce how it will honor Dolly Parton's legacy

It's unclear how the park will honor its namesake, but there is already a memorial set up in Dollywood's welcome plaza for visitors to reflect on her life.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Dollywood is set to unveil its plans to honor the legacy of its founder, Dolly Parton, at a news conference Wednesday. 

The theme park announced over the weekend that Dollywood's president, Eugene Naughton, will give an update on how it will celebrate Parton's life at 1 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 2. A livestream will be be added to watch the announcement.

Parton, who was Dollywood’s “Dreamer-in-Chief,” died Aug. 25 at age 80. Her family said she passed after a brief battle with cancer, but details have not been made public.
